We'll also visit other iconic Belgian breweries, allowing you to explore the full range of Belgian beer styles, from fruity Lambics to rich Dubbels.

Beyond the tastings, this adventure includes exploring medieval towns, indulging in local cuisine perfectly paired with our beers, and soaking in the scenic beauty of the Belgian countryside.

Itineraries

Day 1

Date : April 11, 2025

Bier Central

The opening dinner of the Belgian Beer Expedition will be held at Bier Central, a renowned name in Belgium where people come from all over the world for its extensive beer selection.

Prepare to be immersed in the passion for beer at Bier Central. The menu, a true Beer Encyclopedia with over 120 pages in the form of a book, is just the beginning of a unique dining experience.

Every detail, from the wooden beams and antique furniture to the warm lighting and friendly staff, radiates the good old times.

The meeting point for all of us to go to the restaurant will be in the hotel lobby at 8:00 PM.

Day 2

Brasserie Blaugies

Visit the Brasserie Blaugies, one of the most traditional breweries in southern Belgium. This family-run brewery, founded in 1988, specializes in Saison-style beers.

After the tour, indulge in a culinary delight at the traditional restaurant Taverne du Fourquet. This cozy eatery serves classic Belgian fare, such as moules-frites and steak-frites, perfectly paired with the distinct flavors of beers from Brasserie Blaugies, creating a dining experience you won't forget.

Day 2

Brasserie Cazeau

The second visit of the day will be to the legendary Brasserie Cazeau, a brewery with over 175 years of history that maintains the family tradition of producing its beers.

The brewery was founded in 1753 by Jacques Descamps. It has been passed down through the family ever since and is currently run by Laurent Agache, the founder's great-great-great-grandson.

Brasserie Cazeau is known for its traditional Belgian beers, such as Tournay Blonde and Tournay Noir. The beers are brewed using natural ingredients and traditional methods.

During the visit, you will learn about the brewery's history and brewing process and taste some of its delicious beers.

Day 3

Westvleteren

On a special day in Poperinge, we will visit the only place in the world where you can legally buy Westvleteren beers: the In de Vrede Abbey pub.

In de Vrede, a charming pub nestled in the shadow of the Saint Sixtus Abbey, is your gateway to the world of Westvleteren beers. Here, you can savor the unique flavors of the Westvleteren 6, 8, and 12, catering to a variety of beer enthusiasts.

In de Vrede also serves traditional Belgian dishes, such as carbonnade flamande and moules-frites. You can enjoy a delicious meal and sample the famous Westvleteren beers in this charming setting.

Day 3

St. Bernardus

In the afternoon, we will visit the St. Bernardus Brewery rooftop bar and taste some of their delicious beers.

At the rooftop bar, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the countryside. It's the perfect setting to unwind, sip on a drink, and soak in the beauty of the surroundings.

The St. Bernardus Brewery is known for its Abbey beers, which are brewed using traditional methods. Some beers you can try include the St. Bernardus Abt 12, the St. Bernardus Prior 8, and the St. Bernardus Witbier.

Day 3

De Dolle Brouwers

We will conclude the day at De Dolle Brouwers, a small artisanal brewery in Esen, Belgium. In Flemish, "De Dolle Brouwers" means "The Mad Brewers," and it is a fitting name for this eccentric brewery.

The brewery was founded in 1980 by friends who were passionate about brewing beer. They started in a small garage but quickly outgrew their space and moved to a more prominent location in Esen.

De Dolle Brouwers is known for its unique brewing process, often experimenting with unusual ingredients to create their distinct beers. Some of their most popular beers include Oerbier, a strong dark ale; Arabier, a spiced wheat beer; and Dulle Teve, a Belgian strong ale.

Day 4

Val Dieu

A day entirely dedicated to Abbey Beers.

Step into history at the Cistercian Abbey of Val Dieu, a spiritual sanctuary founded in the 13th century. As one of the 22 abbey breweries in Belgium, it holds a significant place in the country's cultural heritage. The abbey, originally intended for monks and passing pilgrims, is a testament to the enduring tradition of abbey beers.

The tour of the abbey will take you to the sacred rooms, including the church, the cloister, and the library. You will also learn about the abbey's history and the tradition of abbey beers.

A visit to the brewery will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Abbey beers are made. You will see the brewing process from start to finish and learn about the different ingredients used.

Lunch will be served in the old stables, converted into a restaurant. You will enjoy a delicious meal of traditional Belgian cuisine paired with abbey beers.

This is a great day trip for anyone interested in abbey beers, Belgian history, or spiritual tourism.

Day 5

Het Anker

We will start the day with a fascinating visit to Het Anker Brewery, famous for producing award-winning Gouden Carolus beers. In addition to exploring the brewery's inner workings and tasting a variety of beers, we will have the opportunity to visit the distillery.

Few know that besides producing excellent beers, Het Anker also creates distinctive and flavorful whisky.

Our visit will culminate with a delightful lunch at the brewery's restaurant. Here, we can indulge in a wide variety of their delicious beers and food, ensuring a satisfying end to our day.

Day 5

Brouwerij Malheur

We will visit the brewery Brouwerij Malheur in the early afternoon, which is known for creating Bière Brut-style beers.

Bière Brut is a type of beer that is fermented twice, once in the traditional way and then again in the bottle. This gives the beer a sparkling, champagne-like quality.

Brouwerij Malheur is a small brewery in Buggenhout, Belgium. Luc De Raedemaeker founded it in 1997.

The brewery is known for its experimental beers, and its Bière Brut beers have won numerous awards.

Day 5

Brouwerij Bosteels

We will conclude the day with a visit to Bosteels Brewery, internationally known for its three iconic beer brands: Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet, and DeuS.

Kwak is a Belgian strong ale named after the unique kwikser (cuckoo) glass served in it. Tripel Karmeliet is a Belgian Tripel, a type of strong golden ale. DeuS is a Belgian strong pale ale that has been fermented twice.

Bosteels Brewery is located in Buggenhout, Belgium. It was founded in 1791 and is still owned and operated by the same family. The brewery is known for its traditional brewing methods and its commitment to quality.

Our visit to Bosteels Brewery promises to be a treat for your taste buds.

You'll delve into the brewery's rich history and its beers, and the best part is that you'll get to savor some of the brewery's most delicious creations, including Kwak, Tripel Karmeliet, and DeuS.

Day 6

Date : April 16, 2025

Brauerei Rodenbach

A day reserved for a trip to Roeselare, known primarily for producing the famous Belgian sour brown beers, the Flemish Red Ales.

And, of course, we couldn't miss the chance to visit the prestigious Rodenbach Brewery. We'll have the rare privilege of exploring the 290 oak foeders, each holding 15850 gallons, used for maturation.

Day 6

Date : April 16, 2025

Brouwerij Liefmans

In the afternoon, we will delve into the history and culture of Oud Bruins, a sour brown ale, at Brouwerij Liefmans, a beer sanctuary in northern Belgium.

We will explore the entire old factory, including the open fermentation rooms, the coolship, and, most impressively, the cellar with Oud Bruins from the 1970s and 1980s.

Day 7

Cantillon

One of the trip's highlights is the Cantillon Day Tour, which includes visits to Brasserie Cantillon's original and new locations. This world-renowned brewery has been brewing lambic beers since 1900.

The tour is led by Jan Van Roy, the fourth-generation brewer and owner of Brasserie Cantillon.

Day 8

Lambic Day

Lambic Day is an excursion to the Pajotteland region, known for its production of lambic beers. The day begins with a guided visit to the new Lambic production center, where you will learn about the traditional methods of brewing lambic beer.

You will then visit some of the iconic breweries in the region, such as Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen and Lambiek Fabriek. At each brewery, you can taste different lambic beers and learn about the brewing process.

This is an unforgettable day in an essential lambic-producing region in Belgium. You will experience the unique flavors of lambic beer and learn about the region's history and culture. This is a great day for beer lovers and anyone interested in Belgian culture.

Day 9

Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF)

The expedition participants will participate in the Zythos Beer Festival (ZBF), Belgium's premier beer festival. The festival is held near the historic and welcoming city of Leuven and celebrates Belgian beer culture.

Zythos is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 by a group of beer enthusiasts. Its mission is to promote Belgian beer and educate the public about its history and culture.

The ZBF, held annually, is usually held in Leuven, a city with a rich brewing history. Last year, it didn't happen, and we're waiting for the 2025 edition. The festival features over 1,000 beers from over 300 breweries, making it one of the largest beer festivals in the world.

In addition to the beers, the ZBF also features food, music, and entertainment. It is an excellent opportunity to sample some of the best Belgian beers and to learn more about Belgian beer culture.
